Cat Care Checklist

Supplies: Paper bowls, paper towels, pitcher, treats, and wet food are on the kitchen island. Dry food and the white plastic container are next to the bowl by the stairs. If you run out of anything, call Allison: 914-489-2311.

The four cats

SonnyWet food cat. Will ask you to feed him constantly. That is just who he is.

RockyMostly stays in the bedroom. Eats dry food. May disappear for long stretches. That is normal.

OllieLoves to play. Eats dry food, some wet food. If he gives a warning meow, give him some space. Will actively try to get out the front door. Watch him.

TeddyLoves to be near you. Eats dry food, some wet food. Scratches on everything (glass, wood, metal). Normal, but more when unsettled.

Sonny's wet food

Sonny gets 3 to 4 Fancy Feast Classic cans per day. Open and dump into a paper bowl. Two easy options:

Option A: 2 cans in the morning, 2 in the evening.
Option B: Spread across the day around 8am, 10:30am, 3pm, and 7pm.
Either way is fine. No strict schedule.

Mix the flavors every time. If you give 2 cans together, make them different colors. Do not give the same flavor twice in a row.

If Sonny sniffs it and walks away, leave it. He will come back.

Any other cat who asks:

If Ollie, Teddy, or anyone else seems hungry, put down a can for them too. How much they want varies. Use your judgment. They will also eat whatever Sonny leaves behind.

Cleaning up:

When a bowl on the ground looks dry or empty, throw it away.

Dry food

Rocky, Ollie, and Teddy eat dry food. No schedule. Check the bowl by the stairs. If it looks low, refill from the white plastic container next to the bowl.

Treats

Use your judgment. No schedule.

SonnyDried salmon, pink bag (his favorite). Also Blue Buffalo soft treats.

All fourDried salmon (pink bag), Squeeze Ups, or Fancy Feast Broth Bowls

Water fountain

Use the Rubbermaid pitcher, fill from the fridge door water. Add half a pitcher every 3 days.

If the fountain makes a hissing sound, it needs water right away.

Letting them outside

You can let them out onto the lanai (screened porch).

Ollie will try to get out the front door. Keep an eye on him whenever the front door opens. The other cats are unlikely to bolt but Ollie wants to go.

Watch for the pool guy (Mondays) and lawn crew (any day). If they show up, close the doors between the lanai and the yard.

Getting them back inside:

Call their names a few times. If they do not come, walk along the edge of the plants and keep calling, or go inside and wait a few minutes. Treats help too.

If they really will not come in, close the door and leave. Make sure the lanai outer doors are fully closed. A few hours on the lanai is fine.

Ollie's medicine

In the refrigerator. Only needed if he seems very agitated. Call Allison first and she will walk you through it.

Playtime

Ollie especially loves to play. Letting him outside helps. Toys work great too. Sonny and Teddy like to play. Rocky probably will not join in. All of them will be happy just to hang out near you.

Things to know about the house

House cleaners come on Friday. Do not be alarmed if things look different.

If you cannot be there any day, call Marsha directly. She knows the house and the cats.

Litter boxes:

You do not need to clean them. About once a week, Rocky may poop next to the box in the laundry room instead of inside it. Let it dry and throw it away. He does this sometimes and it usually does not mean anything is wrong.

Call us if you see this

Just let us know. You do not need to handle any of these yourself.

• A cat vomiting a large amount or in multiple spots (small amounts occasionally are normal)
• Sonny refusing to eat for a full day
• A cat missing for more than 24 hours
• Anything that seems very wrong
